I don't think I will ever be classified as an Unschooler. I am too structured in my nature to fit into that mold! But I like to look into everything, spit out the bones and eat the meat! So I am on the lookout for a book on unschooling for my own interest. Any recommendations?

Many people like John Holt but I find it a bit to dry for me. Here are some of my faves- although I can't recommend one over the other.
-- The Unschooling Handbook by Mary Griffith
-- The Teenage Liberation Handbook by Grace Llewellyn (even if you do not yet have a teen!!)
-- You Can Teach Your Children Successfully by Ruth Beechick helped me to see how it doesn't have to be 'schooly'.
-- Christian Unschooling by Elissa M. Wahl and
-- Real Learning: Education in the Heart of the Home by E. Foss
No one book can define or sum up unschooling for me. even though we attempt to do some workbooks, I still class us as unschoolers...so don't try and fit into a mold...just take the meat and spit out the bones.

Wow, I didn't know you classed yourself as Unschoolers, now that is interesting!
I think that after 11 years I am becoming more and more that way but as I said, part of me is too structured to ever think that I could live that way 100% Maybe it is a bit like living raw..........even 50% is good for you!

Yep, great analogy! some unschooling purists will say that it is either ALL or NOTHING but I do not agree. I simply see that as conforming to someone else idea of what homeschooling/unschooling looks like.

There's beauty and benefit in most of the methods...but no one fits our family, but a blend does. Little bit of this, and a little bit of that...and you have what works for us!
